3 Easy Steps to Becoming a Vegan

With the amount of meat borne illnesses, not to mention severe animal cruelty to those being served up in our grocery stores, many people are going vegan. With a variety of delicious mock meats to choose from, switching from high-fat meats isn’t as hard as you may think. Becoming a vegan will not deprive you of the meaty tastes you enjoy, and you won’t have to live on bird seed either. PETA, the animal rights activists that mean to change the world, have 3 easy steps to becoming a vegan.

How to go Vegan

You need to essentially detox your house of all animal products, including meats, poultry and fish. But don’t worry! There are delicious alternatives to all of these products! Your local grocery store should have a selection of vegan alternative foods in the dairy isles, produce section and even in the frozen dinner isles.

Food items you may not Consider non-vegan

There are some foods that are obviously non-vegan, but there are other that you may not realize contain animal products and shouldn’t be consumed by vegans:

  • dairy – including cheese, milk, yogurt
  • mayonnaise
  • breads (that contain eggs and milk)
  • cookies
  • pasta

Instead, cook with or enjoy:

  • soy milk
  • soy cheese
  • almond milk
  • flaxseed oil
  • non-dairy yogurt

What are some Meat Alternatives

There are so many delicious alternatives to meat, you will hardly realize that you are not eating the real thing. You may even be able to fool an adamant carnivore with the following substitutes:

    • garden burgers
    • veggie meat balls
    • veggie ground beef

veggie bologna, salami, hammeatless beef tipsveggie bacon (delicious)

So why on Earth would someone who enjoys meat go vegan in the first place? There are several reasons, in fact:

  • becoming vegan will help you slim down and become more energetic
  • vegans are less likely to develop heart disease, cancer, diabetes, or high blood pressure than meat-eaters are
  • meat is often contaminated with feces, blood, and other bodily fluids
  • the way that animals who will go to slaughter are treated is inhumane and they are often carved alive
  • vegan food is delicious
